Post-Game 3: Soundbites with Sutter

May 18, 2013 By John Hoven

On his way to the airport, Kings coach Darryl Sutter stopped to share a few thoughts after the Kings 2-1 overtime loss in San Jose. Here’s what he had to share…

On his reaction to the two late calls:

“You get used to it. Two games in a row.”

On if he had a chance to catch the replay on the Trevor Lewis penalty:

“What do I have to watch the replay for?  If they call it running into the goaltender. You must’ve watched it. Did he run into the goalie?” (MM: “Didn’t look like a penalty to me”) …Well what do you want me to tell you then?”

On if he was happy with the Kings’ overall performance:

“Both teams have trouble scoring 5-on-5, So it boiled down to power plays for both teams the last two games.”

On if it’s tough when the refs essentially decide the game:

“I don’t put a whole lot into that. They said we got a break last game, so what should I say? We got a break, they got a break.”

On the game winning goal by Logan Couture, was it tough for Jonathan Quick to save:

“Well I think he was probably reading Thornton’s shot instead of a Thornton-Marleau pass.”

On if mixing up the lines was to create more opportunities:

“Nope. Nope. You’re allowed to do that. Did it last game. Did it every game. It’s not like we run guys out, offense, defense, we can mix guys up.”

On his opinions on the team’s play tonight:

“We’re fine. Tough team. We’ve got our hands full, obviously.”

On Tanner Pearson’s play in his first NHL game:

“I thought he was fine. First game.”

On if this type of game can be a momentum changer:

“Depends who you’re cheering for.

On starting overtime down 5-on-3:

“We did awesome job killing the 5-on-3. They didn’t score 5-on-3. We talked about killing 5-on-3, killing 5-on-4, then winning the hockey game.  If they would’ve scored 5-on-3, is that the first time an overtime game has been won 5-on-3? I don’t know. But, I’ve yet to be in a game where we started 5-on-3. Ever. And I’ve had a lot of overtimes.”
