Following the Kings 3-2 shootout win over the visiting h Colorado Avalanche, here’s what coach coach Darryl Sutter had to share…
– On his ‘3-2’ statement coming true again: “It’s good when you win 3-2.”
– On if LA got away from their pressure game in the second: “Well we’re playing a team with nothing to lose, right? Score a lucky goal, and get back in it. Just trying to…Quite honestly, I thought we played really well. Just score a lucky goal, and then the fourth line scores a goal against the fourth line. It’s no big deal.”
– On the importance of jumping on Colorado’s debuting goalie early: “Try and get as many shots on him as you can, but at the same time, a lot of times that’s the best game they play too, right? He played good. He made a lot of really good saves for them. I’m not sure what happened to him. If he cramped up, or what it was. It kind of looked like that.”
– On Brad Richardson taking advantage of the spot he’s in: “You know what? The fourth line’s gotta out play the other team’s fourth line.”
– On Dustin Penner’s return helping Jeff Carter and Mike Richards: “I want to try and keep those top two lines consistent. And that means that Dustin, and Jeff, and Mike gotta compliment each other. I don’t think it’s so much getting them going. It’s…Carter’s fighting for the Rocket Richard (Trophy). So I don’t know if it’s about getting them going, and I think Mike is…He’s a guy that plays better down the stretch. We’ve seen that. So that’s what he’s known for. So it’s more Dustin’s gotta get going.”
– On if getting home ice is important to him: “Trying to get in. Right? That’s first and foremost. That’s what everybody starts the season doing. So that’s what we’re trying to do first. It’s a difficult task.”
– On if how he breaks the schedule down with seven left: “We got one game that encompasses a busy schedule that we’ve been through. So we want to get through that next game. Because then you get your two days. Then I think you’re even home and road again aren’t we? I think. But you can see that we need to get through the next game. That will tie everything in then.”
-On concerns he has heading into the Anaheim game: “I think tonight was. I don’t look at…How do you mean the last two games? I think tonight’s awesome for Jonathan Quick quite honestly. Great for his psyche. He’s had a difficult time his last couple shootouts. So you know it’s the old thing. It’s getting the lead. You get the lead. Score first…In the shootout too. It makes a difference. So that’s the most important thing for us. Our power play scored a goal. Our penalty kill was good. So we gotta play against a higher level of team on Monday. Sunday? Monday? (Saturday) Saturday, eight o’clock. That’s how it’s coming together when you say that. Not seven. We’re hooked in, you know? From traveling. We’re hooked into getting through this next one, and that’s how we’ve looked at it.”
