Samuel Fagemo’s shootout heroics led Ontario to a 3-2 victory over Bakersfield in the Reign’s first game since the All Star break.
The 22-year-old Fagemo netted the shootout winner in the back half of the fourth round to win the game after Cal Petersen made the stop in the first.
Bakersfield opened the scoring in the dying minutes of the first period after a wide open Condor out waited Petersen then shoveled it upstairs. Ontario was outshot in the first frame 12-8, but Jacob Moverare had the best look, as he wristed one off the post.
In the second stanza Ontario got off to a quick start, throwing the first eight shots on net of the period, including a goal by Fagemo who poked it past the Condor netminder after jamming at a loose puck in the area of the crease. However, Bakersfield regained their lead after a deflected shot beat a screened Petersen over his right pad.
The Condors came inches from extending their lead early in the third after firing one off the iron. Moments later, Martin Chromiak slid one through traffic to tie it after a mad scramble in front of the net. Ontario had an opportunity to take a lead late on the powerplay, however they were unable to convert, taking this game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the two teams headed into a shootout. Tyler Madden scored in a do or die situation, setting up Fagemo for the game winner in the shootout as he rolled it around Pickard’s pad.
Petersen earned his 11th win of the season, stopping 26 of 28 shots.

Fagemo won’t be a front-line guy, but he will be a useful, dependable
3rd line, 2-way player with a good enough shot to make contributions on
the 2nd PP unit.
He might kill a few penalties on the 2nd PK unit as well.
20 Gs/40 pts/season will be his neighborhood.
Solid support player.
