Backed by two-goal performances from both Andre Lee and Sammy Fagemo, the Ontario Reign defeated the big, bad Coachella Valley Firebirds last week. Now, they’ll play a home-and-home series with the AHL’s top team — beginning on the road Monday afternoon with a holiday matinee.
Cal Petersen was in net for last week’s victory and he’s expected to resume his spot in the blue paint again this afternoon. Unfortunately, it appears Kings prospect Alex Turcotte will again sit this one out after missing both Reign games over the weekend due to a recent injury suffered on this play.
With several extra forwards at his disposal right now, we wouldn’t be surprised to see coach Marco Sturm use this opportunity to swap a few guys in and get them some playing time. After seeing time at 3C a few games ago, Nate Thompson would probably be the most likely candidate to return.
Toby Björnfot also remains up with the Kings, as they’re about to leave town for an extended road trip.
