VIDEO: Raffi Torres hit on Jarret Stoll in Game 1 – Sharks at Kings

May 15, 2013 By John Hoven

The following video is of Raffi Torres’ hit on Jarret Stoll from the second period of Tuesday night’s playoff game between the Sharks and Kings…

REVERSE ANGLE

Stoll did not play another shift after the hit.

Following the game, here’s a link to what Kings coach Darryl Sutter had to say about the situation.

Meanwhile, Sharks coach Todd McLellan called it a ‘clean hit’ and not deserving of a penalty. See his full quotes here.

UPDATE:  Torres has been suspended for the remainder of the series.  Watch the NHL’s full explanation here.

As much as id like to see that waste of dna laying motionless bleeding on the ice, i think us sweeping s.j. and repeating as champs just so stoll can invite torres to his cup party n then answer the door as the colonel cold cocks him from the blindside and they leave torres bleeding in a heap on the front porch is more important.

No i havent thought this out or anything…

Apparently Sharks fans don’t know how to turn off the “caps lock” button. It’s “hella-easy” to do.

Playing like girls, you say? I’m sure plenty of girls can play better than you, so I’d rethink the misogynist comments.

Looks like he was going to hit him in the shoulder, but missed as Stoll tried to react and they hit head to head on the 2nd angle.

Winning the cup seems to make teams that haven’t won the cup get a little upset….

I don’t like Raffi, I don’t like the Sharks, but I don’t think this was malicious. I think if they gave him more than 2 games because of his history, it would be an insult to the changes he’s been making to his playing style.

Richards has been doing the same thing for years hitting guys when their heads are down, of all the bad hits Torres has made over the years this was quite mediocre. Where are the Kings and Flyer yackers when their center Richards has sneakily done the same for about 7 years. He needs his head handed to him!

Its not up to any of you idiot sharks fans to decide whether or not the was intent to injure, its up to the disciplinary committee. Now be good little fish and lose the series because you get upset and can’t contain yourself. Thanks.

I can go either way on this one – it looked malicious in that he went for a hit he didn’t need to make (puck is gone, player is peeling away from the play) and in that sense a high hit you don’t nee to make is chippy at best, dirty at worst. But I’m not completely sure he was head hunting, which is really supposed to be the basis for a suspension. In the end, a guy with a record for head hunting hit a guy in the head when he didn’t need to – he’s probably gonna sit a game or two. It’s not up to the Kings, it’s up to the league.

The prolem is that the discipline system is completely whack – borderline stuff resulting in a game or two isn;t the problem…flat-out evil hits resulting in a couple games is the problem. That hit in the Ducks/Wings series should have resulted in a suspension for the remainder of the post season (short as it was for Anaheim).

Take care of the really bad stuff and the borderline crap will take care of itself.
