Following the Kings 2-1 win over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets, here’s what was being said in the LA locker room…
– Darryl Sutter on the game recap: “We played desperate against a desperate hockey club. There was lot’s going on out there, typical Columbus and LA game right? Heavy lifting.”
– Sutter on Matt Greene: “I asked him after how he felt and he said he felt good. That’s basically what I was looking for, how he felt.”
– Sutter on the physicality of tonight’s game “I think there was lots after whistles tonight. Both teams have guys that get involved and want to play a physical game that’s right on the edge. And desperate team, we try to stay away from 4 on 4 hockey as much as we can, try to play 5 on 5 but the referees were calling that so, normally they’ll set the tone right away and get one guy but they didn’t want to do that tonight.”
– Sutter on special teams: “Well we’ve been (in the) top 10 for power play all year, so we’re trying to… that’s one of the things getting Greene back, hopefully as we go forward it will help our penalty kill.”
– Kyle Clifford on scoring the game-winning goal: “Yeah definitely, points are hard to come by this time of the year so anytime we can get them and try and lock up that home ice, that’s our goal.”
– Clifford on if these games like this help the team get ready for playoffs: “They help a lot, that was playoff atmosphere obviously they’re trying to make a push to get back in and they came hard and we were ready for it and fought back.”
– Clifford on how it felt to score: “Anytime you score it’s nice but it’s not our main game in our line so it’s an added bonus.”
– Clifford on the end of the game with Brandon Dubinsky: “Just a cheap shot, and that’s his personality, and we got guys out there and he goes after Doughty whose not our toughest player, not the smartest thing but it’s good to get the win.”
– Clifford on how important it was to score quickly after Columbus tied: “It was a big thing and our line chose to strive on energy and create energy for the team and so I think Richardson made a good play to get it to the net and we got a goal out of it.”
– Anze Kopitar on the game recap: “There’s some room for improvement but I think our game is coming along and you want to be in these types of games. Last year we were battling for a playoff position, this year we’re battling for home ice advantage so it’s almost like a similar type of situation and it gets you in the mood and gets you prepared for playoffs. It’s always nice to stay at home and not have to travel and we all know in the west if its’ not on the West Coast, it’s usually about an two-and-a-half hour flight so anytime we can save a few of those, it helps.”
