Out of respect for our readers we’re posting this contest much sooner than usual because – well, we know that a game starting at 9:30am PST on a Sunday might be tough enough as it is.
The Kings were shutout in their last game on Thursday, so nothing has changed with the Kings’ key stats. Jeff Carter still leads the team with four goals and six different players remain tied tied for with five points each – including Simon Gagne, who still hasn’t scored a goal this season.
Following a trade with the Panthers on Friday for 6-foot-5 defenseman Keaton Ellerby, LA’s blueline will look slightly different in Detroit. During practice earlier this morning, coach Darry Sutter had him skating alongside Drew Doughty.
He also put Rob Scuderi with Slava Voynov, plus Alec Martinez with Davis Drewiske.
Up front, there were a myriad of changes as well…(updated Sunday 9am PST) and these are the line combinations Sutter will be using:
Simon Gagne – Anze Kopitar – Dustin Brown
Kyle Clifford – Jeff Carter – Justin Williams
Dwight King – Mike Richards – Jordan Nolan
Brad Richardson – Jarret Stoll – Trevor Lewis
That leaves Colin Fraser, Jake Muzzin and Dustin Penner as the healthy scratches.
Now we want to know who you think will score the first goal. Guess correctly and you could win a prize.
It’s simple enough to enter too – just place a comment below with the LAST NAME of the LA Kings player you think will score first vs. the Red Wings (one entry per person). We’ll take all of the correct entries and pool them together. From that group, one random winner will be sent a t-shirt from RefYouSuck.com (shown above).
They have a full selection of hats, shirts and sweatshirts. So, after you enter the MayorsManor First Goal Contest, be sure to head over to their site and check out some of the items available for hockey fans.
Good luck!
