Next Friday in Winkler – a small town in Manitoba, about two hours south of Winnipeg – Dustin Penner will get his ‘Day with the Cup.’ Even thought it’s his second time with the NHL’s top trophy in five years, things will be different he recenlty told us. “Last time I didn’t get to spend enough time with it,” Penner said. “I ran around showing it to everyone else…I didn’t get to spend enough time with it myself.”
We’ll have more on how that all plays out later in the week.
For now, here’s Penner doing some word association for MayorsManor…
TJ Oshie – “TJ Hooker”
Joe Thornton – “Jumbo”
Bobby Ryan – “Two first names”
Mike Smith – “Phoenix”
Zach Parise – “UND Fighting Sioux”
Darryl Sutter – “Funny”
Willie Mitchell – “Radio (like a boom box)”
Drew Doughty – “MENSA”
Jeff Carter – “Sniper”
Mike Richards – “Great guy”
Anze Kopitar – “Mr Slovenia”
Dustin Brown – “The water bottle incident”
When Penner returns we’ll get his thoughts on the three things every hockey player should do during the summer and he’ll share the one item still sitting on his bucket list.
