Over the past four months, the NHL lockout has meant different things to different players. For LA Kings defenseman Alec Martinez it’s been a journey that first took him to the other side of the globe to play for TPS Turku in Finland. Now, with the addition of plates in his face to repair a fractured cheekbone suffered in a game overseas in November, he’s back in Texas and has signed on to play for the Allen Americans – a team that’s about five minutes away from where he calls home in the off-season.
And last night, on New Year’s Eve, Martinez made a few fireworks of his own when he made his CHL debut. Check out the highlights from the Americans 4-0 win over the visiting Quad City Mallards…
Interestingly enough, the CHL and the Americans have been brought up on two recent editions of the MayorsManor show. We talked CHL ownership with Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel here …and on a separate show here, NHL legend Mike Modano talked about being a co-owner of the Americans.
Also, if you missed the first interview Martinez gave when he returned from Finland – where he spoke in detail about the injury and subsequent surgery – click here to check out his appearance on the MayorsManor show just a few weeks ago.
