Rob Scuderi on Kings win, Kopitar and Clifford

January 27, 2013 By John Hoven

Post-game thoughts from defenseman Rob Scuderi following the Kings 4-2 win in Phoenix…

On getting the first win of the season: “It feels good. I think we’ve played some good hockey. Certainly not a full 60 minutes, but I think tonight, truth be told, probably wasn’t our best game. But, sometimes it doesn’t matter how you get the win as long as you get one.”

On Anze Kopitar: “(It’s good to see) after he’s been playing a lot of the season in Sweden, then came over here and got hurt. He’s been bag skating and stuff. You know just to have him firing on all cylinders is real important for us in a shortened season.”

On Kyle Clifford: “He’s a big part of us coming out of the lockout here – his conditioning, his timing. I still feel that a lot of teams, and even including myself, as individuals, we still don’t have it completely down yet. But I think the guys who played a little bit have an edge and he certainly looks like he’s playing with one right now.”

On winning the final game of a roadtrip: “It’s great. We’ve had leads in the last two games and we didn’t close it out. We didn’t get it done and that’s been a rarity for this team since I’ve been here. I don’t know how many, but I can’t remember blowing too many leads in the third period.”

On the fact they hadn’t lost in that situation since 2009: “Oh really? So it has been a while! You definitely think about it, especially having a lead here in the third period and then we gave up that early goal. But, everybody did a good job of just staying positive and playing the right way. We’ve got one and came out with the win.”

Extremely disappointed in the VERY slow start, considering everyone knew this was exactly the way NOT to start off the season, especially when you’re trying to repeat as Champs! The way they lost in the last minute the last game was even harder to watch! We must hope that they go on a very long win streak and get past this horrible start!
