Kings rookie Jake Muzzin talks first NHL goal

Jake Muzzin Kings goal MayorsManorPost-game quotes from rookie defenseman Jake Muzzin following the Kings 4-2 win over the Coyotes:

On his first NHL goal: “It’s a great feeling. You always dream of playing in the NHL and it was my first NHL goal, so it was big. It’s a good feeling and a better feeling that we won the game; so we’ll just keep building from here.”

On getting an assist in the first period, his first NHL point since 2010: “I really didn’t do anything special on those assists, but just quick pick-ups there and the guys made the plays. A good pinch down the wall, and you know the guys made the plays from there. So, it’s a good feeling. It adds confidence though, and getting the goal was just a bonus tonight.”

On his confidence level after playing the last three games: “he more and more you play with the guys you feel a little more a part of it. I was definitely a little more confident coming into this season than I was last time I was here (October 2010). So, to have that, it makes a little bit of a difference when you’re playing. To get a few points builds confidence too, and the little simple plays, being a good defender – that all builds confidence.”

On the puck from his first goal: “I think Stollie got the puck out there for me and I appreciate that.”

On what he’ll do with the puck: “It will probably collect dust somewhere on my counter. I don’t know.”

On memorabilia he’s kept from earlier in his career: “I have a box downstairs with a bunch of trophies in it. I just kind of keep that stuff a little quiet and hidden. I don’t put it out there to show everyone. Kind of keep it quiet.”

On who will have sent him the first text message when he turns on his cellphone: “I don’t know, hopefully I get a couple tonight.”

Post-game comments from coach Darryl Sutter and other Kings’ players are up on the homepage.
