Jeff Carter talks Richards vs Doan and the Coyotes

January 27, 2013 By John Hoven

Kings’ center Jeff Carter was credited with the game-winning goal in LA’s 4-2 victory Saturday night.  It marked the second consecutive game where Carter had scored this season and was only the second goal of his career vs. the Phoenix Coyotes.

After the game, MayorsManor spoke with the 6-foot-3 right wing about the team’s first victory of the season and a pivotal play in the third period, involving his linemate, Mike Richards and Coyotes’ captain Shane Doan…

On Richards fighting Doan (shown in the above video): “That’s who Mike is. That’s what he does. He kind of took a run at (Dustin) Brown, kind of threw him to the ground there and that’s Richie – he goes in and sticks up for his teammates. You ask anybody in this organization and they’ll say the exact same thing.”

On his goal in the game: “The main thing just getting the win here. I think we’ve gotten better every game – with a few lapses here and there in each game. Tonight we were better here too. We played a pretty solid game, made it as easy on Quick as we could and we were able to put the puck in the net which is a good thing right now.”

On the focus needed in the third period to close the game out: “We’ve talked about playing a full 60 minutes. We know we haven’t played it yet. Tonight was probably our closest to it. Everybody’s been here a long time, so they know how to close games. For whatever reason, it didn’t happen in the last two and we’ll learn from it and move on from it.”

On the emotion in the game, with it being the first time the two teams have played each other since the playoffs: “It felt like just another game. I didn’t know what was going to happen (or spill over) from the last game here. But, there was nothing going on, maybe one hit at the end there. But other than that, it was pretty easy going.”
