Tonight marks the fourth and final meeting of the regular season between the Kings and Flames, however none of the previous three have meant as much as this contest. Both teams are currently out of a playoff spot, but within striking distance. And with so many of the teams ahead of them also playing tonight, the Western Conference standings will likely get a good shake-up over the next six hours.
Special note: After the game, be sure to join us on the MayorsManor LIVE show. We’ll be taking calls and questions from listeners, discussing the playoff races around the NHL and Jim Fox will be calling in from the Saddledome with a post-game report. You can dial us up toll-free at (888) 342-0491 and/or listen in here. We’ll also cover some of the these stories…
A week after the Kings last trip to Calgary, Kyle Clifford recorded his first Gordie Howe hat trick (a goal, assist and fight in the same game) and by doing so he earned a free steak dinner via a friendly wager with teammate Kevin Westarth. Now, it might be time to collect.
“We need to find some time here,” said Wesgarth, when I asked if he’s paid up yet. “We should have some time on the road. I’m sure Canada has that good Alberta beef. So, that’s probably the best way to go about it.”
As for the game itself tonight, Dustin Penner shared these thoughts…
“It’s not a hatred,” he began, when talking about a rivalry with Calgary. “But, it’s been a really intense place whenever I’ve been there, with Anaheim and especially Edmonton. It’s probably where 30-40% of my fights have been – against Phaneuf, Regehr, Prust, etc. It’s always a tough game. They’re what every good home team should be – and that’s a bunch of homers.”
As usual, MayorsManor will host a First Goal Contest tonight. If you’d like to enter, simply leave a comment below with the LA player you think will score first vs. the Flames. All correct answers will be pooled together and one random winner will be awarded a free pair of tickets to an upcoming Kings home game.
To help you with your selection, the following stats may come in handy…
– Dustin Brown has 6 goals in 29 career games vs Calgary
– Anze Kopitar has 9 goals in 23 games
– Justin Williams has 2 goals in 17 games
– Mike Richards has 3 goals in 8 games
– Jeff Carter has 2 goals in 8 games
– Jarret Stoll has 4 goals in 37 games
– Doughty has 1 goal in 15 games
Of course, feel free to take Penner, Jordan Nolan, Willie Mitchell or any of the other Kings players. Just stay clear of Westgarth, Brad Richardson and Davis Drewiske because they’re expected to once again be healthy scratches from tonight’s game.
Good luck!
