Despite not having a single player in their lineup who played more than 10 NHL games for the club last season, the LA Kings defeated the reigning Stanley Cup Champions 4-3 on Wednesday night. And it’s not like Vegas iced an unknown group of players. The Golden Knights had Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault, Chandler Stephenson, Alec Martinez, Alex Pietrangelo, etc.
Akil Thomas provided the offense in regulation, recording a hat trick. Then, Tyler Madden sealed the victory in overtime.
"That's probably the last time I'll ever play against that guy. Not really much of a player, so I'll leave it at that." — Mark Stone reacts to the 2nd period hit from Hayden Hodgson
Also went on to say he thinks he scared Brandt Clarke a little bit in the scrum #VegasBorn pic.twitter.com/SHt3Z3wc6Z

The Kings will play their next preseason game against the Ducks in San Diego on Friday. As reported yesterday, some of the regulars will slowly start to filter back into the lineup this weekend.
– Forward Andre Lee will have knee surgery this week (following an incident in the Anaheim game on Sunday). He is expected to be out month-to-month.
– Defenseman Kim Nousiainen missed a few days of practice. However, he returned today and was wearing a regular colored jersey.
– The Kings players who went to Australia will slowly begin returning to game action here, as early as Friday on San Diego. However, the bigger names won’t be back in the LA lineup until next week’s game at Crypto Arena.

It’s rather amazing to me that the LAK backup squad, filling in for the Jet Lagged 1st squad, Nor only hung in there and competed but actually won the game. Yes… it’s pre season but the Kings showed their impressive depth in the win.
