For the second straight night, Ontario fell just short, losing 4-3 in overtime to Bakersfield.
The Reign started things off eight minutes into the game, as Kings prospect Andre Lee notched his fifth goal of the season. He put home a rebound initially shot by Tyrell Goulbourne, who forced a turnover just before he threw it on net. Bakersfield answered with a pair of goals, including a shorthanded marker, to take a 2-1 lead into intermission.
The Condors extended their lead to two goals in the middle stanza after a mistake by defenseman Cameron Gaunce led to a 2-on-1 opportunity. However, Reign forward Samuel Fagemo brought his club within striking distance just before the period closed with a bullet from the left circle on the power play.
Early on in the final frame, and just moments after Bakersfield had again gained a two-goal advantage, T.J. Tynan brought the Reign back within one with a goal on the man-advantage. Then, Fagemo picked up his second of the evening with the third Reign power play goal of the night. Capitalizing on a loose rebound, the Swedish native had ties the game. And it remain that way after 60 minutes
In overtime, Condors goalie Calvin Pickard made a big save in one end and Seth Griffith went the other way on a breakaway — making no mistake, ending the game and claiming victory for the home team.
In net, Cal Petersen made 29 saves in Ontario’s loss.
