Ontario flipped the script at the halfway point in Tuesday’s game, scoring six unanswered goals to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 7-3 victory in Colorado.
In the second period, Kings prospect Alex Turcotte took a puck off his face and briefly left the game. Upon his return in the third, he was wearing a full shield and went on to pick up an assist and score a goal. The 21-year-old forward now has a four-game point streak, tallying six points over his last four games played.
In the first of what will be back-to-back games between the two clubs, Ontario trailed Colorado 1-0 after 20 minutes. They were actually fortunate to be in that position, having totaled just four shots in the opening frame, even while having three power play opportunities.
Jean-Luc Foudy gave Colorado a two-goal margin early in the middle period, as he snuck a wrister past goaltender Cal Petersen. Moments later, T.J. Tynan put Ontario on the board after he deflected a pass from Tyler Madden into the open cage. However, the Eagles retook their two-goal lead after Alex Galchenyuk pounced on a loose rebound.
From that point on, Ontario took complete control of the game, scoring three goals to build a 4-3 lead heading into second intermission. Samuel Fagemo sparked the comeback with a one-time blast on the power play. Five minutes later, Austin Wagner used his speed to create a breakaway chance, ultimately scoring after a backhand-forehand move around the Eagle netminder. Just eleven seconds later, Samuel Fagemo notched his second of the period by wiring one in from a weird angle along the wall.
In the third, Turcotte forced a turnover in the offensive zone, then took both defenders with him before dropping off a pass to a wide-open Martin Chromiak who scored his fourth goal of the season — and fourth over his last five games. While shorthanded, Taylor Ward found a lane to sneak a back door pass to Turcotte who redirected it home. Two minutes later, Lias Andersson supplied another Reign goal from the left circle.
Petersen earned his fourth straight victory, stopping 26 of 29 shots.
