Sometimes, the final score doesn’t tell the whole story and that was the case with LA’s 4-3 victory over visiting San Jose on Wednesday night. The Kings could have easily added a few more goals early in the game. However, Sharks goalie James Reimer provided formidable opposition in net. Despite facing 22 shots in the first period alone, he held the Kings to just one goal. It was a tight 2-1 game after 40 minutes, before LA did what was needed to pull away — and eventually close things down — in the third period.
Three stats from the game:
— Quinton Byfield picked up his first goal of the season. With an assist on the night too, it was a two-point night for the young forward.
— Gabriel Vilardi’s breakout season continues. He notched his 17th goal of the campaign, which pushed him over the 30-point mark for the first time in his career.
— Drew Doughty’s third period goal ended up as the game-winning goal. It was his first GWG of the season and 29th of his career; this tied him with Rob Blake for most game-winning goals in franchise history among defensemen.
