Fans watching the Ontario Reign for their high-powered offense Friday night were in for a real treat, as they defeated the visiting Abbotsford Canucks 8-2. Both teams got after it quickly, combining for five goals within the first six minutes of play.
After that early offensive outburst, the game seemed to slow down. Ontario took a 3-2 lead into the middle frame, then proceeded to add three goals – including an ESPN top-10-worthy goal by Tobias Bjornföt. With the home team carrying a 6-2 lead going into the final stanza, they kept the pressure on Abbotsford by notching a few insurance goals to push the score to 8-2.
Ontario’s fire-power on the night came in the form of six guys providing multi-point performances, including three-point nights by freshly named team captain T.J. Tynan (1 goal, 2 assists) and Akil Thomas (1 goal, 2 assists). The Reign power play also converted on three of six opportunities. Their penalty killers shutdown two of the Canucks three chances with the man advantage.
