With the thinning of the LA Kings training camp roster well underway, two more pieces of the overall plan have now fit into place. Forward Martin Frk and defenseman Kale Clague have both cleared waivers. Look for an official announcement shortly that they’ve been reassigned to AHL Ontario, where they’re expected to practice with the team later this afternoon.
Clague joins an already crowded Reign blueline and he could have two more players joining him there rather soon. From what we’ve been able to gather, the plan continues to include Olli Maatta as the Kings seventh defenseman. However, the team has opted to carry eight defenseman for the next few days as they wait to gain a better understanding of Maatta’s status. He was banged up a bit in Friday’s preseason game vs. the Golden Knights.
See here around 3:25 into the highlights:
Final rosters are due to the NHL main office on Monday, October 11. Provided Maatta is cleared by then, look for the Kings to place Christian Wolanin and Austin Strand on waivers, for the purpose of sending them to the AHL.
We have an updated look at the Ontario Reign training camp roster (hint: they have way too many players), at the link below.
