Ontario Reign Camp Roster and Schedule

October 3, 2021 By John Hoven

Opening Night for the Ontario Reign is just under two weeks away and their first preseason game is coming up on Thursday, October 7. Even though players have been busy training in El Segundo for quite some time now, their AHL training camp officially opens on Sunday and much like the team’s parent club, there are simply too many players.

More on that in a moment.

First, a little house cleaning to get started.

ONTARIO REIGN TRAINING CAMP SCHEDULE

Sunday, October 3 – Practice at 1:00 p.m., TSPC

Monday, October 4 – Practice at 1:00 p.m., TSPC

Tuesday, October 5 – Practice at 12:00 p.m., TSPC

PLAYERS SENT TO AHL ONTARIO

Under a variety of different categories — from AHL only contracts to NHL prospects who are waiver exempt — here is a list of all the players released from Kings Camp on Saturday:

Forwards: Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Aidan Dudas, Samuel Fagemo, Arthur Kaliyev, Rasmus Kupari, Tyler Madden, Johan Sodergran, Alex Turcotte; plus Jacob Doty, Adam Johnson, Brett Kemp, Nikita Pavlychev, and Brett Sutter

Defensemen: Sean Durzi, Helge Grans, Markus Phillips, Jordan Spence; plus Cameron Gaunce

Goalies: Jacob Ingham, John Lethemon, Lukas Parik, and Matt Villalta

Additionally, six players were placed on waivers. All of them cleared on Sunday morning, thus they’re expected to be assigned to Ontario, as well. That list is comprised of: Brayden Burke, Martin Frk, TJ Tynan, Kale Clague, Jacob Moverare, and Garret Sparks.

POTENTIAL REIGN LINEUP

Of course, everything is subject to change throughout the week. However, based upon how players have been skating recently, there is a fairly good chance they’ll be arranged as follows:

Madden – JAD – Fagemo
Kaliyev – Turcotte – Frk / Kupari
Sodergran – Tynan – Johnson
Pavlychev – Dudas – Doty
Burke – Sutter – Kemp
Gerads *

Moverare – Spence
Guance – Durzi
Clague – Grans
Phillips
Hora *
Kasastul *
Russell *

Sparks
Ingham
Lethemon
Parik
Villalta

* Camp Invitee

ADDITIONAL NOTES

— As pointed out here, from what we’re hearing, there is quite a bit of interest in keeping Quinton Byfield and/or Rasmus Kupari up with the NHL club to start the season. In doing so, without a trade, that would force GM Rob Blake to place Carl Grundstrom, Blake Lizotte, and/or Austin Wagner on waivers. Should said player(s) then clear waivers, they would join the Ontario group too.

— Defensively, the Kings are most likely going to be placing two more blueliners on waivers in the coming days. Olli Maatta, Austin Strand, and Christian Wolain all remain in NHL camp with really only one spot to claim. Thus, if either of the other two clear waivers, they’ll also join the Reign. UPDATE: We posted a further update on the Maatta situation here.

— Why is JAD in the AHL right now? We broke it down here.
