This Date in LA Kings History: March 1st

March 1, 2021 By Harry Ouzounian

From their humble beginning as one of the NHL’s Second Six expansion teams in 1967, through winning two Stanley Cups in three years and becoming a league powerhouse in 2012-14, the LA Kings have experienced a rich hockey history over the past 50-plus years. Below are some key franchise moments that occurred on this date.

On March 1, 1975, Butch Goring became the second player in @LAKings’ history to score four goals in a game. Bob Nevin registered four assists, and Dan Maloney and Juha Widing both recorded three assists in a 7-4 win against the Minnesota North Stars.#LAKings #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/dA5JVIOGSW

It’s nice to see some good memories of Butch Goring. From 69 till we got Dionne he’s the reason those faithful 7000 people used to go to the games. If the younger people and new fans want to know how he played. He played the same way Blake Lizotte plays today. He used to play both power play units he was the point on the second unit. He was a penalty killer who scored multiple hag every year. The year we traded him to the Islanders we knew we got screwed on the deal but we were happy that Butch won a cup. In fact, the Islanders couldn’t win the cup until he got there. They then proceeded to win 4 straight and then lost to Edmonton to start their run. What I wish is that the OG Kings Fans would push to get his number retired. If it wasn’t for him and Rogie the team may of not been here after the 80s. Thanks for letting me vent.
