Like the NHL, much of the AHL schedule this season is comprised of two-game sets. Unfortunately for the Reign, the first game of a pair vs. the visiting Tucson Roadrunners on Friday led to a similar result as last year.
Arizona’s top affiliate posted a 7-1 record vs. LA’s counterpart in 2019-20, then tacked on another victory Friday night in El Segundo, skating off with a 5-4 win. Video (including a fancy Quinton Byfield pass to Akil Thomas for a goal), notes, and quotes from that game can be found here.
We’re waiting on the Roadrunners lineup and will update the below projection closer to game time.
Tucson Roadrunners Lineup
Bunting – Pederson – Roy
Burke – Jenik – Carcone
Sucese – Speers – Gregoire
Steenbergen – McGregor – WilkinsMayo – Soderstrom

In Friday night’s game, Tucson found success with their special teams play, going 2-for-3 on the power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty-kill, plus scored a shorthanded goal. Coyotes prospect Michael Bunting is tied for the AHL lead with three power-play goals.
There will one Reign roster change for the rematch today, defenseman Cole Hults is expected to make his AHL debut.

Ontario Reign roster news:
Forwards Nick and Jack Poehling (signed to AHL deals during offseason) have been assigned to ECHL @SwampRabbits. With the number of fwds currently in SoCal and protocol requirements for bringing guys back, imagine they'll play most/all of season there.
