The Manchester Monarchs are now one win away from going to the Calder Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history. After their 5-3 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, coach Mike Stothers spoke with MayorsManor…
On his overall impression of the victory:
“Glad we got a win on the road, but still think we can play a cleaner game. Still some mental mistakes that come back and hurt you.”
On the team becoming this dominant in the Conference Final, after struggling a bit in the first round:
“I don’t look at the number games, I just look at the next one.”
On what the team has to do to win the next game:
“Score more goals than they do.”
On what needs to be shored up for Wednesday’s Game 4:
“Well why don’t I just walk into their dressing room and tell them?”
On the Jordan Weal-Brian O’Neill-Michael Mersch line:
“They’ve been terrific, but we’ve gotten some good efforts from a lot of guys, a lot of different line combinations. [Justin] Auger plays the right side on the fourth line, the left side on the second line and a lot of guys want to number them. In order to win you have to have guys step up, play hard and play big. We’re lucky a guy like O’Brien tonight scores a big goal for us. Backs has been playing well. They’ve been playing well, and that’s what you’ve got to do.”
