Puck Probability: Odds for Stars at Kings, November 13

November 13, 2014 By John Hoven

Stars Dallas NHLTonight’s matchup between the visiting Stars and host Kings should be an interesting one for at least two intriguing reasons. First, this is the second of three meetings between the two teams in less than 20 days. Why they need to complete their entire three-game season series in the same month is one of the quirky NHL scheduling mysteries. Even more perplexing is the whereabouts of Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson. After being welded to the bench for the latter half of last night’s contest in Anaheim, did they even return home with the club?

As always, we’re here to get you ready for all the action set to take place at the Staples Center, and joining us to represent the Stars side of the ice is Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. Together, we’ll set the table with a few things we think just might happen…

Odds by MayorsManor:

4:1 – Trevor Lewis scores in back-to-back games.

7:1 – In a battle of “buddy duos,” Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn will combine for six points, only to be outdone by the seven points from Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik.

10:1 – Mike Richards will net three assists tonight after doing everything last night except score.

73:1 – Tyler Toffoli will play less than 10 minutes in the game.

250:1 – Drew Doughty, in addition to playing 40 minutes on defense, will also skate a few shifts as the right wing on a line with Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll.

Odds by Mike Heika:

1:1 – Stars fans will fling an empty Zima bottle at the Zenith when they see Brown’s smirking face.

3:1 – Stars rookie defenseman John Klingberg will score his first NHL point in his second NHL game. Klingberg has 12 points in 10 AHL games this season, so he’s already behind his point a game pace. He played 18:32 in his NHL debut Tuesday and was plus-1.

4:1 – Dallas will score first and still lose (they are 2-3-2 when scoring first, worst in the NHL). The Stars also have been outscored 25-11 past the second intermission (exceeded only by Buffalo), giving some statistical reasoning to the “scoring first” record.

10:1 – Dustin Brown will initiate contact with Antoine Roussel, pull Roussel to the ice, hold Roussel’s stick when he tries to get away… and then laugh when Roussel takes a penalty for punching him in the face. (Oh wait, that happened last game)

18:1 – Lindy Ruff and Darryl Sutter will exchange barbs about their hometowns in Alberta. Ruff: “Everyone from Warburg knows that Viking is the doofus capital of Alberta.” (said in his best Woody Boyd voice).
