Kings defenseman Drew Doughty had the following to share with MayorsManor before leaving Staples Center for a few weeks. Of course, he’s now off to Sochi for the Olympics…
On getting a win heading into the Olympic break:
“It’s good. Big win. It’s what we needed to do and we did it.”
On if he thinks he’s stepped up his play:
“Yeah, I think I’ve been playing well for a little while now. I haven’t taken a game off and I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help the team win. Whether that’s playing hard defense, flipping in a little offense- I’m trying to do it all. I think there’s a lot of guys here that are stepping up their game and are trying to do it as a core.”
On Darryl Sutter’s tough love:
“I really like Darryl as a coach, personally. He’s definitely hard on us and he expects the best out of us. At times, he’s going to get on your nerves, but that’s just the type of coach he is. Even though sometimes he sounds crazy, he’s right. We have to listen to the things he tells us to do in order to win games. When we do listen, we win.”
On if he would rather hit Dustin Brown or Anze Kopitar in the Olympics:
“I doubt we’ll see Kopi at any point, but if he makes it by, I’d like to hit Kopi.” (MM: “Why Kopitar over Brown?”)” Because Kopi’s Kopi.”
