Quotes from both locker rooms following the Dallas Stars 5-2 over the LA Kings on Monday night…
Darryl Sutter on tonight’s game:
“Every scoring chance they got, they scored on us, so that’s a tough challenge.”
Sutter on the Kings not playing until Saturday:
“We come back from the break and start with a tough six week run right into the Olympic break, so hopefully there is still a playoff spot at that time.”
Sutter on Dustin Brown being sick:
“It’s probably the flu, he was sick all night. Hopefully the guys aren’t sick for Christmas so they can enjoy it, but this is what happens around this time of year.”
Martin Jones on his mindset after giving up the first two goals:
“Just stop the next one. That’s all you can do. What’s done is done and just go onto the next one and make sure that I get the next one and try to give these guys a chance. You can’t spot them two goals early. It’s pretty tough to win that way.”
Jones on tonight’s game:
“Every time I play it’s a little more experience which will help me. It’s one game. I mean it sucks to lose, but it’s one game. We got a busy schedule after Christmas so we have to make sure that we’re ready to go.”
Anze Kopitar on tonight’s game:
“We weren’t as sharp as we wanted to be. Obviously they have some guys that can put the puck in the net. We wanted to manage the puck a little better and control the neutral zone and play in the offensive zone and we didn’t spend enough time there.”
Kopitar on the Kings’ homestand:
“We had good goaltending. And on top of that, we added a few goals and made it a little bit easy. We had a good run here and maybe it’s time to recharge for a couple days and then get right back at it.”
Lindy Ruff on winning important road games:
“Yeah we feel real good about it. We did a lot of good things tonight. We knew with the defense we had, young defense, we were going to have to weather a little bit of the storm, but I thought after we got through the first period we really played good hockey.
Ruff on the importance of beating a team like the Kings:
“We are trying to gain points in a really tough conference. The only way we are going to do it, is beat good teams. We lost a tough point in San Jose, in a game that we thought we played real well. We knew to move up the standings, before we go back home, that the only way was to get a real good effort tonight. We thought that maybe we were going to get out-played by a greater margin with a young defense, but I thought the young defense responded well to the challenge. It was a big two points for us.
Jamie Benn on tonight’s game:
“We played hard as a group. Our back end played really well. We don’t have too much experience back there, but they handled themselves well against one of the best teams in the league, and once again, Kari [Lehtonen] was great.”
