Monday Morning Kings practice – Toffoli, Richards line info

March 11, 2013 By John Hoven

We’ll have lots of news coming from Kings practice throughout the morning. However, as they just took the ice a few minutes ago, here’s how coach Darryl Sutter had them lined up:

FORWARDS

Dustin Brown – Anze Kopitar – Justin Williams

Dustin Penner – Mike Richards – Jeff Carter

Dwight King – Jarret Stoll – Tyler Toffoli / Trevor Lewis *

Kyle Clifford – Colin Fraser – Jordan Nolan

* note: All forwards are skating in the same color jersey today, so line combos aren’t 100% set. Usually, they skate in specific jersey colors by line (i.e. the white line, green line, etc.). Toffoli has already seen shifts on a few different ‘lines’ – even though early in practice he was primarily with the third line. So, we’ll likely need to wait for Sutter’s post-skate comments to get confirmation of his plans. However, Richards is apparently healthy and ready to go.

UPDATE 10:40am – As tweeted a few minutes ago, we can confirm Lewis will be on the third line tonight. Toffoli will be a healthy scratch.

DEFENSE

Jake Muzzin – Drew Doughty

Rob Scuderi – Slava Voynov

Alec Martinez – Keaton Ellerby

Extra skaters: Davis Drewiske and Brad Richardson

More to come shortly.

Any idea why Lewis is in the doghouse? Or is it just giving Toffoli a shot?

Lewis not in the doghouse, was just rotating guys around today.

Why scratch Lewis? He has been doing so well! And we all know Sutter loves him. I wonder if something is nagging him that needs a little rest.

I bet a trade is in the works for Lewis.

For what? A fourth round pick? Trade a key role player with no veteran to fill his slot for a mid-round pick?

Don’t mess with the chemistry. Plus, DL & DS need TL to keep tabs on Doughty.

This whole situation is weird. Did they bring Toffoli up as insurance in case Richards (or Williams) was unable to play? or are they just giving him a quick look at the NHL level and then sending him back to Manch? I just don’t see bringing him up to play third line and benching Lewis. Toffoli is top-6 or nothing. Not to mention Lewis is Sutter’s hard-working poster boy and has actually produced fairly well as of late.

This whole thing is confusing. Maybe I’ll get to see Toffoli in action, I’m going to the game tonight.

Toffoli was most likely brought up for a variety of reasons – i.e. they had an extra roster spot, he’s earned a call-up based upon his play in AHL, the Kings have a lot of games coming up, in case of injury (or to give a guy a day off), etc.

I think we are getting paranoid about Lewis being a scratch. I agree he is starting to get hot..but I also think Sutter mentioned that players are getting fatigued and probably banged up with this game schedule.

SO Nobody was sent down….because there was an extra opening with the Gagne trade..so no one is getting traded…. (I hope!!) THINK POSITIVE GUYS!!!

About time they called Toffoli up..Now time to trade Stoll and Fraser..

I hope you’re joking….. trade two players that have very specific roles for what? a couple mid to low level picks? Calm down everyone. This is just for Toffoli to get a look at the bigs and possibly crack the line up a couple of games….

Well, for starters, Stoll and Fraser are centers. So, trading them doesn’t really help Toffoli – who will play RW in the NHL.

Further, don’t expect either guy to be traded any time soon.
