Following Saturday night’s 7-4 loss by the Kings in Anaheim, Kings d-man Alec Martinez was pretty down. Still, here’s what he had to say to the media…
– On missing Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene: “Obviously those guys are a huge part of our team and we miss them regardless. But yeah, we have to bare down on the PK and we have to convert those opportunities and create the momentum going the other way. We didn’t do that tonight, so yeah, we’ve got to work on it – focus on it, and hopefully, comeback in Columbus and do well with it.”
– On the mood in the locker room and the Kings players being very down: “I don’t think it’s any more than normal. I think it we knew it was a big game and we always have good battles with Anaheim, and obviously we’re disappointed with the loss. We’re not happy with our play. So I don’t think it’s any more than normal, but we’re obviously not happy with our performance tonight.”
– On the poor defensive play vs the Ducks: “You have to play a full 60 minutes. You have to play both ends of the rink, so obviously we didn’t do that tonight. Our power play did well, but we have to pick it up on the PK, and special teams are important especially in today’s game and we didn’t convert on that.”

It sucks when players use the word ‘obviously’ a little too much in an interview. You know things are broken but how do you fix it or when will the tides turn? – Wish they could changes things around as fast as you changed your article. 🙂
