UPDATE: Corey Perry Injured in Training, Had Surgery and Will Miss Start to Season

September 12, 2025 By MayorsManor Staff

Information is extremely limited at the moment, yet newly signed Kings forward Corey Perry was possibly injured while skating with his teammates at Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo on Friday.

Mayor’s Manor has confirmed through multiple sources that the play in question appeared to take place along the boards, and it wasn’t immediately clear if he went down as the result of catching a rut on the ice or if it was a result of contact from another player. Eventually, Perry was said to be taken off the ice in a wheelchair for further medical evaluation.

The 40-year-old winger was signed by LA GM Ken Holland back in July and was undergoing the final stretch of off-season workouts prior to his scheduled participation in Kings Training Camp next week. Perry’s status is now in question. We’ll update this article further should more information surface. However, because this technically occurred during the offseason, any sort of official announcement will likely not be available via coach Jim Hiller or other team personnel until camp opens.

Earlier this week, Perry represented the Kings at Dodger Stadium, throwing out the first pitch before a game between the Dodgers and Rockies.

Over the course of his career, the 6-foot-3 forward has played in nearly 1,400 NHL regular season games and produced 935 points (including 448 goals), along with almost 1.500 penalty minutes. Additionally, Perry has generated 141 points (64G, 77A) in an additional 237 postseason games. He went to the Stanley Cup Final each of the past two seasons as a member of the Oilers and has been to the Final six times total since breaking into the league in April 2006. His lone Stanley Cup ring came as a member of the Ducks in 2007.

UPDATE:

The LA Kings have announced forward Corey Perry was injured during a training skate on Friday, September 12. Perry underwent successful knee surgery on Friday and will be out 6-8 weeks.

So it begins. The more things change, the more they stay the same for the Kings.

If it’s long-term, you have to worry as a fan that Holland will do something like panic trade Clarke As he’s been rumored to be available all summer, and the new GM talking about how he hast to see Clark with his own eyes before he can give him a contract extension.

Literally zero fans are worried about that. The 40yo 4th liner on a 1 year deal getting hurt is not cause for trading your best prospect on a breakout year before the season even starts. Stop reading clickbait trade rumor articles lol
