Vancouver defeated LA 2-1 on Tuesday night just 1:36 into overtime, slowing down the Kings after their back-to-back 5-1 victories.
Trevor Moore opened the scoring in period one, followed by a game-tying goal by Elias Pettersson – who was just signed to an eight-year extension – in the second frame.
As has been the case many times this season, the Kings played a strong 60 minutes yet made mistakes in the extra frame; Kevin Fiala took a holding penalty and the Canucks scored on the delayed call.
After defeating Vancouver and their home barn last week, the rematch saw LA fail to carry over the offensive production they’ve shown in the past couple of games. The Kings were only able to muster 24 shots on goal, including several golden opportunities early in the final period of regulation. Nothing converted though, keeping the Kings from scoring that one extra goal they needed.

Trouble Finishing: In addition to their 24 shots, the Kings hit a post and crossbar in the third period, as well as a missed opportunity from Alex Turcotte on a 2-on-1. It’s encouraging they were able to generate dangerous opportunities, but converting on these is an area LA will look to improve on moving forward.
Updated Look At The Pacific: By collecting a point on Tuesday, the Kings jumped ahead of the Golden Knights for third place in the Pacific Division. Vancouver still sits atop the division with 87 points, followed by Edmonton with 78, while LA and Vegas each have 73 (LA has one game in hand). There’s still a ways to go in the season, but a third straight matchup between the Kings and Oilers looks like an increasing possibility.
Stat Sheet Takeaways: Rookie defenseman Brandt Clarke played only 7:06 on Tuesday, less than half of his season average of 14:34. One reason for this is the Kings only had one power play vs. Vancouver, where Clarke is a mainstay on the second unit. It’ll be interesting to see if his limited usage in their 11-7 configuration continues over the next few weeks.
Schedule On Their Side: Six of the next eight games for the Kings are against teams currently out of the playoffs. LA will need to collect as many points as possible to set the tone for the rest of the regular aeaosn and into the postseason.
