Just like the Kings returned home from their six-game road trip, their AHL affiliate has stopped collecting frequent flyer miles and hotel reward points.
Saturday night will mark their first home game since early January, as they touch down in Ontario for a matchup with last year’s Western Conference Champions.
Coach Marco Sturm’s squad has produced three wins in four tries against the Firebirds this season, including two shutouts. They last saw each other in early December, with the Reign skating to a 4-3 overtime win.
Rookie goaltender Erik Portillo was a net that night and he is expected to get the start again for this one.
Sammy Fagemo opened the scoring in that game, assisted by Brandt Clarke. Although neither of those two players will be available to Sturm tonight — as they’re both up with the Kings — All three of his other goal scores will be in the lineup: Alex Turcotte, Tyler Madden, and Martin Chromiak.
Much of the lineup on Saturday should look the same as it has of late, with one possible exception. Nikita Pavlychev has been recalled from ECHL Greenville again. We’ve heard they’d like to get him some games soon, perhaps as soon as tonight.
With Jacob Doty out day-to-day, we’ll slot him in on the fourth line over Ryan Francis for now.
After tonight, the Reign have a quick turnaround for a home game tomorrow afternoon at 3pm against the visiting Bakersfield Condors.
