It’s Quakes night in Ontario on Wednesday, so we apologize in advance for an abundance of baseball references.
In the longstanding tradition of local sports teams partnering on themed crossover events, the Reign and their neighboring minor league baseball team from Rancho Cucamonga are once again doing a collab. Unfortunately, Ontario will not be auctioning off any special warmup jerseys this time around. However, they did announce some jersey news earlier today:
Ontario Reign Have Added a Sponsored Patch to Home and Road Jerseys
Following a two-game set in Colorado last weekend where the Reign struck out in both attempts to earn a victory over the Eagles, coach Marco Sturm has his team now looking ahead to a little home cooking. Their schedule this week finds them taking on the visiting Roadrunners tonight and again on Friday. Then, the Reign will gear up for the Eagles on Sunday, hosting them for the first time this season on their turf.
Last season, the Reign finished ahead in the count, picking up five victories in eight at bats against the Roadrunners.
This year, there will be a familiar face in Tucson’s crease, as former Kings goaltending prospect Matt Villalta has swapped his black and white Reign jersey for a desert motif. Thus far, he’s compiled a 4-3 record with his new team, along with a .921 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average.
As of this writing, coach Marco Sturm has not tipped his hand in any way to indicate which goalie’s name he’ll write down on his lineup card — either rookie Erik Portillo or veteran David Rittich. We’re assuming it will be the latter based on recent rotations.
