With the September calendar now into double-digit days, NHL hockey is on the verge of returning for the 2023-24 season. In fact, Monday marks 30 days before puck drop on Game 1 between the Kings and Avalanche.
Later this week, LA’s rookies and veteran players are set to officially check in at the team’s training facility. Meanwhile, one major question remains… How will fans be able to follow the team on television this year?
Their contract with Bally Sports West — essentially their TV partner for the better part of 30+ years — expired at the end of last season. With BSW’s parent company, Diamond Sports Group, and their relationship with Sinclair Broadcasting Group in question throughout the summer, little is known about what the Kings will do next. Recent speculation on Kings Of The Podcast suggested the team could possibly sign a one-year bridge deal to continue airing games on BSW, along with a myriad of games available over the air (most likely KCOP channel 13 and/or Scripps channel 30), along with an additional package of streaming options.
While exactly what will happen with the team’s 82 regular season games remains to be seen, we have a little bit of good news to pass along. Mayor’s Manor has confirmed the upcoming pair of Kings-Coyotes preseason games from Australia will be televised by NHL Network (DIRECTV channel 215). One or both games may also be carried by ESPN+. The newly formed Kings TV crew of Nick Nickson, Jim Fox, and Daryl Evans are believed to be the group scheduled to present both games.
As previously reported in the article below, the Kings will be bringing 28 players with them to Australia.
Training camp for those players will begin Down Under. They’ll report to El Segundo on Friday, Sept. 15 and then leave for Australia late Saturday evening. With the time difference, they’ll arrive on Monday and then have several days to adjust. The aforementioned games against Arizona will be broadcast live in SoCal at 9pm on Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24.

Does this mean that Radio and TV will be simulcasted? Or is there a new radio duo?
Simulcast
Back to the bad old days. In the 70’s and early 80’s the Kings wandered from radio station to radio station. They had all kinds of trouble getting games on TV as well.
I remember they used to be on this one station — I think it was 1150 AM — that used to break up all the time where I lived.
Try 1260 am in the mid 80’s no radio in the house would pick up the signal except my dads chrysler.
I am confused according to the LA TIMES “ The new deal signed in 2012 keeps the Kings on Fox Sports West through 2024 and guarantees the team about $250 million. I was under the impression that this will be the last year of the deal. Perhaps this is why they haven’t made announcement yet. If the deal was up, then they would’ve already had a plan in place.

Our sources indicated it ended several months ago.

Any idea what that means for viewers in the San Diego area?
The LA Kings not securing a Streaming TV deal upon the opening of training camp is very disturbing. I am still pissed the organization relieved rising star Alex Faust of his PxP duties. Subscribe to YouTube TV, so hopefully Bally Sports is NOT an option. Not interested in another season of streaming local broadcasts next day on ESPN+ without Alex. The marketing campaign is upon us, yet the organization are leaving fans in the dark to where and when we can watch the games.
