It didn’t take long for the action to heat up during night one of the Global Series in Australia. Less than seven minutes into the opening period, Kings forward Jacob Doty and Coyotes defenseman Josh Brown hooked up for an old school heavyweight tilt. The latter stands 6-foot-5 and tips the scales at 220 lbs, while Doty is listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 lbs.

Interestingly enough, Doty is not even signed to an NHL contract. He’s on an AHL only deal, yet is allowed to play in preseason games per NHL rules. He was invited to be one of the 27 players on the trip after Kings management was impressed with his on and off ice dedication over the past two seasons. He’s expected to be with AHL Ontario again this season. However, if at some point down the road the Kings need to find some toughness in their lineup, he could become the first players since Sean Walker to move from an AHL contract to an NHL contract within the LA organization.
