Now that the Stanley Cup has been awarded, things will quickly heat up around the league. Coming up quickly will be the NHL Awards, NHL Draft, free agency period, qualifying offers for Restricted Free Agents, Development Camp, and more.
Looking ahead to Dev Camp specifically, dozens of Kings prospects will arrive in Los Angeles to attend the team’s annual summer prospect event at Toyota Sports Performance Center.
Glen Murray, who heads up the Kings development efforts, is said to be putting the finishing touches on this year’s roster. Coaches Mike Donnelly, Matt Greene, Sean O’Donnell, and Jarret Stoll are expected to once again lead most of the on-ice activities; which we’ve heard will begin on Wednesday, July 5.
So, which prospects will be attending?
Typically, Dev Camp is largely comprised of Kings prospects from the prior three years (in this case, 2020-2022), plus the current year’s draftees. That eliminates guys like Alex Turcotte, Sammy Fagemo, and Jordan Spence.
Below, we’ve put together a rough draft of the likely attendees. Keep in mind, this list will grow in the coming days with players selected at the 2023 NHL Draft and via a small handful of camp invitees.
Mark Yannetti, LA’s Director of Amateur Scouting did a one-on-one interview with MM editor John Hoven earlier this week, where they spent an hour discussing updated notes on each of last year’s Draft picks, as well as what the team is planning for this year’s big event. He also talked extensively about the development of Rasmus Kupari and Quinton Byfield.
It’s an insightful conversation you don’t want to miss (listen here).

Camp Invitees
For those unfamiliar, invitees aren’t actually property of the team. Typically, these players fall into three categories – undrafted players who are committed to attend college the following season, players who are there as a favor to somebody in the organization, and Canadian junior players who somehow slipped through the NHL Draft. While they’re technically free agents in most cases, that’s often only true for a very short period of time. If they’re still Draft eligible, they need to be signed by a specific date in October or they’ll go back into next year’s NHL Draft.
Usually, the players invited to Dev Camp are asked to return for Rookie Camp in September. In the past, LA has even signed a few such players after an impressive performance at camp – most notably, goalie Martin Jones.
This year’s list of 2023 invites should be available in a few weeks. We expect around 5-8 invitees.
6/29 UPDATE — Early list of invitees we’ve confirmed:
40 Sean Tschigerl (LW, WHL)
83 Hunter Mayo (D, WHL)
71 Samuel Mayer (D, OHL)
75 Christian Stoever (G, NCAA)
2023 Draft Class
On June 29 in Nashville, the Kings will select their 2023 Draft class. They currently have five picks, beginning with No. 54 in Round 2.
6/29 UPDATE: All five of the Kings selections this year will attend:
54 Jakub Dvorak (defenseman)
89 Koehn Ziemmer (forward)
85 Hampton Slukynsky (goalie)
43 Matthew Mania (defenseman)
56 Ryan Conmy (forward)
2023 DEVELOPMENT CAMP SCHEDULE
