It’s win or go home for the Reign tonight, as they continue their road series against Colorado. They dropped Game 1 by a final of 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday night. These two clubs have been evenly matched all year. They were dead even in the regular season, so it’s no surprise to see this playoff series be so tight and hard fought. With their backs against the wall, it’ll be all hands on deck tonight for the Reign.
Head Coach Marco Sturm was happy with his team’s effort in Game 1. He spoke to the media following the overtime loss and said they played hard in a tough building against a talented team and just came up a little short. Given the praise from the coach, we will likely not see any lineup changes from Wednesday.
The story of the regular season for Ontario was their play on special teams. They were top ten in both categories all year, unfortunately, they came up short in Game 1. The power play put up an 0-4 effort and the penalty kill surrendered a game-tying goal in their only kill opportunity of the night. With the Reign needing back-to-back wins in order to continue their season, the special teams will surely be a huge area of focus.
