Coming into the final stretch of the regular season, the Kings are looking to get healthy at home. Essentially, nearly all of their games in the month of March will be played in Downtown LA. Following a 5-2 victory on Tuesday night over the visiting New York Islanders, coach Todd McLellan’s club is now 6-0-1 in their past seven games.
Combined with their earlier win on Long Island, the Kings swept their two-game series with the Islanders this year. In their latest victory, fourteen different skaters tallied a point — including newly acquired defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, who recorded two assists. The Islanders we’re actually up 1-0 after 20 minutes. However, goals from Drew Doughty, Alex Iafallo, Trevor Moore, and Blake Lizotte in the second put LA in firm control and they never looked back. Later, Quinton Byfield added an empty net goal for good measure.
Three Stats of The Game:
— Joonas Korpisalo stopped 26-of-28 shots, improving to 3-0-0 since joining the Kings via a trade with Columbus. In doing so, Korpisalo became the sixth netminder in franchise history to earn wins in each of his first three appearances with the club and the first since Jhonas Enroth in 2015.
— with his fourth goal of the year, Doughty surpassed Oliver Ekman-Larsson for sole possession of 10th place in goals among active defensemen (136). The goal was also assisted by Anze Kopitar and continued to build on their long history together. Doughty and Kopitar each recorded a point on the same goal for the 285th time in the regular season; it’s the third highest such total by a pair of teammates in franchise history behind Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor (476x) as well as Kopitar and Dustin Brown (305x).
— Lizotte tied the game at 1-1 by notching his 10th goal of the season, tying his single season career-high previously set in the 2021-22 season. It also allowed him to reach the 30-point mark for the first time in his career.
