It’s two opposite fortunes for the LA Kings and their AHL affiliate of late. The big club is rolling, earning points in six straight games, including five wins over that stretch. To say the Ontario Reign have been struggling would only tell part of the story, although going six straight games without a victory certainly sets the tone. They’ll be facing the Pacific Division leading Calgary Wranglers this afternoon, and — on paper — that makes the situation even more dire. In seven previous contests with the Alberta-based club, Ontario has dropped six of them and they’re only victory came in overtime. It’s been tough sledding to say the least.
Ontario is 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, including a 2-0 shutout loss to the Wranglers on Friday. Today brings a chance for a small bit of redemption and a chance for coach Marco Sturm to bring the recent skid to a grinding halt.
He’ll turn to Matt Villalta in net for this one. He’s faced Calgary twice this season, including the aforementioned OT victory.
Beyond that, we’re expecting Sturm to go with the same lineup he used on Friday. Perhaps some stability in the groupings and pairings will be the thing that clicks in today’s matinee affair.
