With the 2022-23 AHL regular season nearing a close, the Ontario Reign have 14 games remaining — and six of them will be against the Abbotsford Canucks, including four to be played in Canada.
In a weird quirk, the two teams have only met up twice thus far. Ontario kicked off their season with an 8-2 victory over the Canucks way back in October. More recently, Abbotsford downed the Reign 3-2 earlier this month, part of the current seven game losing streak coach Marco Sturm is working to navigate through.
He’s expected to have Cal Petersen start in goal on Friday, and then could potentially turn to Matt Villalta in net for the rematch with Abbotsford on Saturday.
Beyond that, Ontario’s first-year bench boss is expected to largely use a lineup similar to what he’s been deploying of late. Below is a configuration largely based upon practice back in LA this week before the team headed north of the border.
