As first reported by The Fourth Period, defenseman Mikey Anderson has agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the LA Kings at an average annual value (AAV) of $4,125,000 per season. His new deal will run through the 2030-31 season.
Originally selected in the fourth round (103rd overall) at the 2017 NHL Draft, Anderson immediately worked his way up the Mayor’s Manor Prospect Rankings with a mix of on-ice talent, leadership traits, and hockey intangibles that are hard to find. He won two NCAA National Championships and served as captain of Team USA at the World Junior Championships before eventually turning pro and making his AHL debut. Anderson’s entire Ontario Reign run was rather short, though, lasting just 53 games before making his NHL debut with Los Angeles on Feb. 29, 2020.
He’s never looked back.
Last season, the 23-year old Minnesota native made his postseason debut, appearing in seven games vs. Edmonton while averaging 19:49 time-on-ice per game.
‘Playoff Mikey’ was something he discussed during a recent Kings Of The Podcast interview:
Upon signing the extension, Kings General Manager Rob Blake shared the following thoughts:
“We’re excited to have a player of Mikey Anderson’s caliber signed to the Kings long-term. Mikey has not only developed into a trusted, shut-down player on the ice, but a well-respected individual in the room that we envision continuing to grow into our leadership core.”

Remember one thing here…
CHARACTER MATTERS
Why does a guy like Mikey Anderson get an 8-yr deal? It goes far beyond advanced stats & play on the ice. That's the type of guy you want in your locker room. All day, every day.
