For the sixth straight game, the Ontario Reign came away without a victory. Friday night’s latest loss came against the San Jose Barracuda by a score of 4-2.
The first period was largely a feeling out process, as there were not a lot of great chances for either side. Ontario’s best look came on a short-handed breakaway by Samuel Helenius.
Reign forward Tyler Madden eventually broke the ice with a power play goal, capping off a great sequence of puck movement with a one-timer. Following the goal, Ontario seemed to find their stride, generating numerous scoring opportunities.
In the early going of the third period, Ontario thought they had scored again. However, after a review, the play was ruled no goal. This quickly changed the momentum of the game, with San Jose taking over. Just moments later, Sharks top prospect Tomas Bordeleau banked one off of the back of goalie Cal Petersen and into the net to tie it. At the halfway point of the final frame, the Barracuda took their first lead of the night. It didn’t last too long, though. T.J. Tynan knotted the game via Ontario’s second goal on the man-advantage. He received a saucer pass from Lias Andersson and made sure to bury it.
Late in the period, Petersen took a rare goaltender tripping penalty, and the Barracuda wasted no time capitalizing on the opportunity. Bordeleau converted for his second goal of the night. San Jose would later add an empty netter to seal the game.
