Four Reign players notched multi-point nights in Ontario’s dominant 7-2 win over the Gulls in San Diego on Saturday. Leading the charge were forwards Lias Andersson and Tyler Madden, who each recorded two goals in the Disco Night themed affair hosted by the Gulls.
Andersson broke the ice before five minutes had gone by in the game, when he ripped a shot off a 3-on-2 rush courtesy of a pass from Madden. Later in the period, Madden himself tapped in a rebound in front of the blue paint after a shot from Andersson. Less than a minute later, San Diego converted a rebound of their own. Regin goalie Cal Petersen made the initial save on a breakaway yet fell out of position, leading to the goal. However, just 17 seconds after the Gulls scored, Kings prospect Martin Chromiak sped into the zone, drove the net, deked, and slid one into the cage to restore Ontario’s comfortable lead.
Early in the middle period, the Gulls pulled within one when a shot beat Petersen glove side. Once again, though, the Reign restored their two-goal advantage shortly thereafter when defenseman Jacob Moverare tucked home a loose puck on a play originated by Aidan Dudas. Andersson would later add his second goal of the evening, banging in a rebound of a Moverare shot. Before the second intermission, Ontario added their second power play marker when Andersson found Madden in the slot; and he took advantage of the sprawling netminder for his second of the night.
In the end, Andersson (2 goals, 2 assists) and T.J. Tynan (4 assists) each recorded four points, while Madden was close behind with three of his own (2 goals, 1 assist).
Petersen earned his ninth victory of the season, while having to make some big saves and stopping 31 of 33 shots.
