Something had to give. The Kings entered Saturday night’s game with the visiting Devils on a 10-2-1 roll over their previous 13 games. However, New Jersey arrived in town with the league’s best road record at 16-2-1.
Make that 17 wins now.
Despite scoring another pair of goals on the power play — something that has been helping the Kings of late — it wasn’t enough this time around. Goaltending didn’t come through when it counted most, especially on the third goal; which ended up standing as the game-winning goal for New Jersey.
It was a loss that several LA players and coach Todd McLellan described as ‘frustrating’ after it was over, as many expressed feeling the Kings played well enough to win for most of the game.
Three stats from the 5-2 loss:
– With his 16th goal of the season, Kevin Fiala continues to lead the Kings with 47 points.
– Anze Kopitar’s goal was his 200th home goal, becoming just the fourth player to ever hit that mark in franchise history: Luc Robitaille (322), Marcel Dionne (288) and Dave Taylor (233).
– Gabriel Vilardi now has a four-game point streak after picking up an assist.
