Coming off a win in San Diego on Friday night, it appears Reign coach Marco Sturm will turn back to goaltender Cal Petersen for Saturday’s rematch with the Gulls in Ontario. In his 11 games back with the club, Petersen has yet to face the Gulls. On the season, he’s put up a 6-5-0-1 record in the AHL and holds a .917 save percentage. In his last appearance on Wednesday, the 28-year-old netminder earned a victory at Henderson.
Sturm is expected to run with the same lineup he used last night. All four players who were scratched last night — Helge Grans, Andre Lee, Kim Nousiainen, and Alex Turcotte — skated in El Segundo this morning. That’s usually a good indication they won’t draw in. Turcotte was close to returning earlier this week, so perhaps he’s a surprise starter this evening. We’d chalk it up as 50/50 at best. It should also be noted that veteran Nate Thompson is a little banged up at the moment, although he isn’t expected to be out very long.
