After dropping four straight to the Calgary Wranglers this season, the Ontario Reign stole a victory on night two of a back-to-back set in Canada earlier this week. After 55 minutes had gone by, it looked like the Reign were headed toward a fifth straight defeat to the former Stockton Heat (ed. note – they recently relocated from NoCal and went through a rebranding to become the Wranglers). Austin Wagner and Lias Andersson had other ideas. See here:
Reign Recap: Ontario Uses Late Surge to Steal Two Points in Calgary
Now coming into Sunday’s rematch with Calgary, there’s a differnt aura in the air. Ontario won big in San Diego last night, posting seven goals — including two more from Andersson — and earning a 7-2 victory over the Gulls. With that in mind, we’re not expecting many lineup changes from coach Marco Sturm besides flipping his starting goalies.
One thing to keep an eye on, though, is the status of Nate Thompson. He’s been out since a game at Coachella on January 8. After skating for over a week in practice now, the veteran forward has been on the brink of a return. Last night in San Diego, he even took warmups with the Reign. Thus, he could certainly draw back in for this one at home.
