Saturday night brought the Kings first regulation loss of their just-completed homestand. Two overtime losses, plus a win over Arizona, allowed LA to scoop up four of the possible eight points that were at stake. However, that’s not good enough; they’ll need to be better over the next six games to keep pace in the Pacific Division.
Carolina scored a pair of goals in the opening period and had extended their lead to 3-0 after 40 minutes. To the Kings credit, they once again didn’t back down in the face of adversity. Arthur Kaliyev put up the first Kings goal, on the power play, of course. Rookie Sammy Fagemo added his first NHL goal to make it 4-2, but time was not on the side of LA and they eventually fell 4-2.
When the Kings were struggling at home earlier this season, it was spending some time out on the road that helped them get healthy. Coach Todd McLellan is likely looking for a similar experience as the team now packs up to begin a 6-game roadie that kicks off in Ottawa on Tuesday night.
