The LA Kings in Philadelphia Flyers will forever be linked. They came into the league together, opened the Forum together, faced each other on opening night of LA’s 50th anniversary season, and have made a bevy of key trades over the past five decades. Saturday afternoon will feature the latest chapter in their storied rivalry, when the two clubs face off for a New Year’s Eve matinee tilt.
Defenseman Alex Edler will be playing in his 1,000th NHL game. He’s expected to line up on the third pair with Sean Walker, same as he has been for the last few games.
In net, Jonathan Quick is expected to get the nod, for what would be his second straight start in the Kings Reverse Retro jersey.
Todd McLellan opted to swap Brendan Lemieux and Carl Grundstrom in Colorado on Thursday. We’re expecting him to go back to pesky No. 48 in this one. However, without a morning skate, nothing confirmed until pregame warm-ups.
