Unlike the past few World Juniors tournaments, the LA Kings are not expected to have very many prospects spread across the eight countries participating. For Team USA, their lone hopeful will be forward Kenny Connors.
Selected in the fourth round back in June (LA’s second overall selection, after taking Jack Hughes earlier), the 19-year-old college freshman has been invited to Team USA’s selection camp that begins next week in Michigan.
He will be among 32 players vying for a spot on the final 23-man roster.
Connors and Hughes both participated in Team USA’s initial evaluation camp over the summer. Since then, Connors has gone on to record 16 points (7G, 9A) in 15 games at UMass. He was also the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for October.
Prior to being drafted, he played two USHL seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
