A pair of LA’s former top draft picks, Alex Turcotte and Quinton Byfield, starred in Ontario’s dominant 5-1 win over the visiting San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday night. Turcotte collected a pair of assists, while Byfield notched three helpers.
Turcotte, a fifth overall pick for the Kings, was one of the most impressive players on the ice all night long. He looked like the prospect described when LA selected him in 2019, effective in all three zones.
Jordan Spence was involved in Ontario’s bookend goals, assisting on the first marker of the night and then later scoring to put the Reign up 5-1.
In the opening period, the Reign struck for three goals by three different players. Samuel Fagemo found himself in the right place at the right time, firing home a loose puck for a power play goal. Moments later, Martin Chromiak registered his first professional point with an assist on a tap-in goal from Tobias Bjornfot. Defenseman Tobie Bisson added another goal to have the home team sitting on a 3-0 lead heading into first intermission.
Ontario continued to push hard throughout the second stanza, adding a pair of goals to further pad their lead. Another Kings prospect, Tyler Madden, scored his third goal in as many games after a hustle play from Turcotte. Later, the 21-year-old Turcotte served up Spence’s first goal of the season.
Both squads were held scoreless from that point, eventually bringing this game to an end at 5-1 and providing Ontario with their second straight victory.

Turcotte does so many small things that you have to be in the arena to see. Constantly hunts pucks, lots of little stick plays, etc.

Madden on the magic he seems to have with Turcotte —
I love playing with Turc. He works hard and he has all the tools. He's skilled and he's fast. He's not afraid to stick his nose out there. So it's always fun playing with him.— The Mayor | Team MM (@mayorNHL) November 24, 2022
