It was just one of those nights.
Or was it?
When a team gives up nine goals in a game, questions will be asked. And the porous Kings defense and goaltending have already been hot topics on more than one occasion this season.
However, there is one positive in Tuesday night’s loss to Seattle. Despite being down multiple goals, at several different points in the game, there was no quit in Todd McLellan’s group. LA continued to repeatedly battle back to tie things.
Overtime is always a coin-flip. It’s just simply a different animal, with different rules and a different flow. As exciting as three-on-three is for fans (and even the players), it isn’t the same ‘game’ of hockey. Putting that aside, though, the Kings made an unacceptable mistake and gave up an inexcusable goal. The end result was a disappointing finish to a game that’s likely to be talked about quite a bit in the days and weeks ahead.
Below are select highlights from Tuesday’s game:
Los Angeles tied the game five separate times; the most by one team in a game in nearly 27 years (since Buffalo at Montreal in January 1996). The NHL record for tying goals in a game by one team is six; a mark last achieved by the Kings on January 13, 1984. That night, LA tied the game six times, ultimately skating to a 7-7 tie at Winnipeg.
